GREEN TEAM UPDATES

Forest Hills is excited to become a Green School!   We are accomplishing this by incorporating many changes in the way we run our school.  A few of the changes include:  reducing garbage and energy usage (Watt Watchers), increasing recycling, and utilizing plastic trays and ‘real’ silverware.

Last year our fabulous 5/6 Teachers selected four interested student representatives to be part of the student Forest Hills Green Team.  There were sixteen students that were part of this Green Team.  All classrooms were checked during both recess times five days a week (completed by the Green Team).  If the lights on/in use (1 point); No energy in use (2 points); Energy in use/no people in the room (0 points).  Weekly results were logged and tallied.  The winning class earned an Ice Cream Sundae party!!

Talk to your children about how they can Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle at home.  Join Forest Hills in becoming Green!

GOOD NEWS!!  FOREST HILLS HAS NOW BEEN CERTIFIED AS A GREEN SCHOOL. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF US!

Welcome to Forest Hills Elementary

A message from Principal Gwen Hill
Forest Hills Elementary School is located in the First Addition neighborhood of Lake Oswego, Oregon.  The school's attendance area encompasses several additional neighborhoods and the downtown.  Forest Hills' philosophy is based on a simple idea.  We are a community brought together to support the academic, social and emotional growth of our students.  We work together as teachers, staff and parents to open the door to the world of learning.  We support and encourage each child to reach their full potential.

June Happenings:

You may have noticed in the news, the significant reduction in the projected state budgets for next year.  The state is projecting an additional one half billion dollar reduction in revenue for the 2010-2011 fiscal year.  What this means for the Lake Oswego School District is an additional reduction of state funding in the neighborhood of 2.37 million dollars.  Superintendent, Bill Korach, will soon present plans to the school board for additional cuts to the budget for the coming school year.  The proposal will leave our current classroom configurations intact for this coming year with four 5/6 classrooms, five 3/4 classrooms and five 1/2 classroom with two sections of kindergarten.  This has been made possible because of contributions to the district Foundation this year.

We will make it through these next few years together with a resolve and commitment to this and future generations of young people in our state.  Forest Hills will remain strong due to the commitment from our staff, parents and community.  Our children will learn, thrive and prosper in these “interesting times.”
