Forest Hills Events
This past Tuesday, March 2nd our 3rd and 4th graders performed a music/PE program that centered on eating right and exercising your body. The students' enthusiasum while singing was infectious and made us all want to start getting our bodies in shape inside and out. Along with the singing the unicycle club showed off their many cycling tricks and some jump ropers dazzeled us with their jumping skills. Thank you to Mrs. Hedgepeth, Ms. McDonald, and all the 3/4 teachers for such an outstanding performance.
Forest Hills received a rating of Outstanding on the report cards released by the state last month, confirming continued high student achievement. This is the fourth consecutive year that our school has achieved the highest state rating. These results are possible because of the dedication and efforts of our staff and parents. I am continually grateful to be working with such an exceptional community!
A message from Principal Gwen Hill
Forest Hills Elementary School is located in the First Addition neighborhood of Lake Oswego, Oregon. The school's attendance area encompasses several additional neighborhoods and the downtown. Forest Hills' philosophy is based on a simple idea. We are a community brought together to support the academic, social and emotional growth of our students. We work together as teachers, staff and parents to open the door to the world of learning. We support and encourage each child to reach their full potential.

Parent Conference days are March 11 & 12. Teachers are looking forward to these conferences knowing that they are crucial in maintaining a continuous line of communication between teacher and parents on student progress. This partnership is a main component in creating the exceptional educational experience for our children. At Forest Hills we have nearly 100% of our parents attending these conferences, which is a remarkable standard and is an example of strong parental support. Thank you so much for the extra effort you put into keeping your scheduled appointment. We know this can be challenging at times.

State Testing:
Our students in grades 3 through 6 will begin taking the State Assessments. These are multiple-choice tests, taken on computers, in reading/literature, math and science at the 5th grade level.
Students may take these tests at their own pace using as much time as they need. For students who have not exceeded standards on the initial test, teachers will provide a second testing opportunity later in the year using a different test version.
We have decided that it would be an advantage to our students to be tested in their reading and math groups. That provides teachers the flexibility to schedule time in one of our computer labs to meet the specific needs of their class. Testing sessions will vary from class to class as teachers monitor their students’ progress. Teachers will include the test schedules in their newsletters and on their web sites.
Please support and encourage your child without creating undue anxiety. A full night’s sleep, a good breakfast, punctual arrival and good attendance is perhaps the best preparation you can provide. Thank you for your help and support.
